With changes in temperature comes changes in the way our skin functions. Cold weather is especially harsh on all skin types and can make existing issues seem much much worse. Lower humidity levels during the colder seasons dry the skin out leaving it feeling parched and looking dull. I always recommend that my clients switch their cleanser for winter time to help keep skin looking radiant all season long. The next 5 cleansers do not strip the skin of any moisture or natural oils, nor do they irritate it in any way. In fact when you use any of the following products your cleansing routine is transformed into an intensely hydrating and nourishing experience. Here are my top recommendations to add into your winter skin care routine and beyond, as always non-toxic and cruelty-free.
∇ Luminous Melting Cleanser by Goop $90
This cleansing balm is truly an indulgent and luxurious experience, it leaves your skin feeling that way too. I find a lot of cleansing balms to just sit on top of the skin while working into skin, never quite doing much of anything, not this one. When you work this balm onto skin you immediately feel as if your skin is drinking it up. The texture of the balm is insane, the name is quite spot on as it literally melts into skin. The ingredient deck on this baby doesn’t disappoint either. You have the perfect blend of different plant oils and butters as well as brightening and anti-aging ingredients too. This formula contains poets daffodil which is proven to lighten pigmentation and brighten over all skin tone and sweet iris stem cells which strengthens elastin and builds healthy collagen. To use work about a dime size of balm onto a dry face to break up makeup, remove dirt as well as excess oil. Remove with a warm towel to reveal a glowing complexion.
∇ Vitamin B Cleansing Oil + Makeup Remover by One Love Organics $42
This is my holy grail cleanser guys. First of all it smells like i’m about to sip on a pina colada on the sand in Maui, too good. A couple of pumps of this silky oil removes dirt, oil, stubborn makeup, and it EXFOLIATES. Whaaaaa… There are papain enzymes in this formula which comes from papaya. Enzymes are amazing gentle exfoliants that gently digest dead surface skin cells leaving fresh smooth skin that is ready to receive all the yummy moisture your layer on after wards. I use this cleanser as my first cleanse in my double cleanse routine but many people use it as their one and only cleansing product. It is great for all skin types and can be left on for 5- 10 minutes for extra enzymatic action. Not only does this cleanser do pretty much everything it also rinses completely clean when rinsed with water. Mic drop.
∇ Vital Foaming Cleanser by Nuori $35
I recently purchased this cleanser by Nuori because I love foaming cleansers but hate the way they make my skin feel. This is a moisturizing foaming cleanser that contains pomegranate enzymes and betaine. The enzymes slough off dead skin cells and the betaine is a powerful humectant that binds water to the skin. Betaine is found naturally in foods like sugar beets and spinach. This foam has a mousse like texture that turns into an oil when worked into the skin, so cool! It removes makeup as well as dirt, oil, and toxins. I love that it’s packed with antioxidants and soothing botanicals plus it rinses clean so no need for a warm towel here. I’m kind of obsessed with this brand right now tbh, their mission and standards are unlike any other in the clean beauty world right now and I’m not complaining. Two pumps of this cleanser is enough for the whole face, work it in and rinse off to reveal soothed, glowy skin.
∇ Wild Rose Beauty Balm by Neal’s Yard Remedies $74
I’ve been testing this balm out for the past two weeks and am now officially addicted. I keep this baby by my bedside to hydrate and heal different parts of my body. This decadent blend of oils, butters, and waxes delivers. The first ingredient in this product is wild rosehip seed oil which has such a high concentration of vitamin A it is often referred to as natures retinol. You also have hemp seed oil which is SO good for the skin as well as essential oils like patchouli and geranium to transport you to another dimension. This balm is great for healing chapped lips, overnight moisture mask, cleanser, cuticle oil, moisturizer or whatever else your heart desires. My absolute favorite way to use this product is applying a thick layer as a mask then steaming my face for 5 minutes then warm towel it off. My skin is left feeling so soft and hydrated for hours. Incorporating a treatment like is once or twice a weak will heal your skin and get rid of dehydration cold weather can cause.
